News from the Salish Kootenai College Foundation

PABLO — President Robert R. DePoe III announces the kick off of Salish Kootenai College’s “Capturing the Vision” capital campaign. This is the first capital campaign in Salish Kootenai College’s history, marking a significant step toward a new era for the College.

“Capturing the Vision” is a five-year, $20 million campus-wide campaign that will invest in life changing opportunities that will enrich each student’s experience and strengthen Salish Kootenai College as a whole.

“We have an inherent commitment of changing lives through education at Salish Kootenai College” said President DePoe, “and we have now reached a pivotal point in our growth as a college. We see the opportunity to build on our success, the vision, dreams, and the inspirations of our dedicated Founders.”

The “Capturing the Vision” Capital Campaign focuses on five funding priorities. These funding priorities were determined through internal analysis and input from Department Heads and Administration. The five funding priorities and their funding goals include:

• Student Success, $5 million

To increase the amount of scholarships SKC can offer its students, to support recruiting and retention efforts, to support campus activities to engage our student body, and to build a connection and a sense of pride as SKC students.

• Academic Excellence, $4 million

To support faculty development, training, to support our Tribal culture preservation efforts, to improve our ability to apply for future grants, to increase funding for future projects, and to support new program development initiatives.

• Campus Infrastructure, $4 million

To support infrastructure improvements, to create a technologically advanced learning environment that inspires each student’s entrepreneurial spirit, to modernize our facilities with new technology and equipment, and to support the use and development of our athletic facility.

• Increasing Community Capacity, $2 million

To support corporate, professional, and workforce development efforts. SKC will develop strategic partnerships, leadership programs, and volunteer programs to strengthen the impacts our institution has on our greater community.

• Culture & Legacy, $5 million

To increase the SKC Foundation endowment fund, to support our students, academic programs, and capital improvements needs of the College, to strengthen our Endowed Chair funding, to support Cultural Perpetuation and Preservation Initiatives and Programs.

These priorities represent opportunities that will enhance the College, building on the dreams of the individuals who dedicated their lives to make SKC one of the most accomplished Tribal Colleges in the United States, and be a beacon to the Salish, Pend d’Oreille, and Kootenai people and tribal members throughout the Nation.

We are tremendously thankful for all those who have publicly and anonymously donated, pledged, and who have showed support for our campaign and the future of Salish Kootenai College. Because of you, and your commitment, we are pleased to say that we have raised $8.3 million to date towards the “Capturing the Vision” Capital Campaign.

“Every gift matters,” said President Robert R. DePoe. “Together, we can share in the vision of a stronger future for Salish Kootenai College.”

Salish Kootenai College Foundation is honored to support this milestone initiative and vision of President DePoe.

We invite you to Capture the Vision of propelling Salish Kootenai College forward to a new level of excellence, as we strive to achieve more, to become greater, to educate more students, to grow, to be a beacon of inspiration, and the cornerstone of education throughout our community, and across the nation for generations to come.

Salish Kootenai College was established in 1988 for the express purpose of supporting the Salish Kootenai College and managing an endowment, which is currently valued at approximately $10 million, and growing that helps guarantee the future of the college. The foundation awards approximately $260,000 in scholarships each year. The Foundation also provides annual support to the College to assist with buildings, facilities, faculty programs, academic programs, and build the legacy of the Institution.

Our mission is to ensure that the Salish Kootenai College has the ability to provide quality post-secondary education opportunities for Native Americans locally and throughout the United States.
