Scarlets, Warriors finish 1st, 2nd in Hot Springs

ARLEE — The Arlee Scarlet and Warrior track and field teams had a long list of top performances at the Dave Tripp Meet in Hot Springs April 12. Only four teams competed in the meet, but the Scarlets and Warriors stood out from their competitors, dominating several events.
The Scarlets’ team crushed the competition, racking up 238 team points, 176 points ahead of Hot Springs and St. Regis’ tied second place finish, and Two Eagle River in fourth. The Warriors team placed second with a combined 154 points. Hot Springs had 224 points to win the team score, St. Regis was third with 53 and Two Eagle River was fourth with 41.
GIRLS
The Scarlets had several high finishes in the track events but really showed their depth in the field events behind the performances of Whitney Malatare, Becca Nelson and Aspen Meidinger.
In the 100-meter, Alex Adams was second (14.60) and Skyla Perry finished fourth (16.04).
Whitney Malatare was second (32.33) in the 200-meter and Adams was third (32.80).
Jessica Knoll ran the 400-meter dash in 1:15.11 to take second and Tiffany O’Neill was fourth (1:27.28).
Two Eagle River’s Zharelle Edwards was third (1:20.69) in the 400-meter and Hamida Jridi was fifth (1:40.55).
In the 1,600-meter run Jessica Dunlop was second (8:12.00) behind Hot Springs’ Amanda Woods.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Eula Fullerton and Adams were first (20.71) and second (21.41). Fullerton also placed first (1:16.60) in the 300-meter hurdles.
Adams, Perry Knoll and Violet Pablo made up the winning (59.78) 4x100 meter relay team and Jenna Pablo, Knoll, Violet Pablo and O’Neill the first place (5:38.71) 4x400 meter relay team.
The Scarlets dominated the long jump event taking all six spots. Malatare topped them all with a leap of 15 feet and 2.5 inches.
Aspen Meidinger and Becca Nelson continued their stellar performances in the shot put and discus events. Meidinger was first (31-7) in the shot put followed by Nelson’s throw of 29 feet and 4.25 inches. Also placing in the shot put was Alexis Shick in fifth (23-5) and O’Neill in sixth (17-7.5).
Two Eagle River’s Daryl Conko-Ca was third (28-1) in the shot put and second (88-4) in the discus.
Nelson was first in the discus with 95 feet and 4 inches; Meidinger in third (80-9); Shick in fourth (80-4); Jenna Pablo fifth (78-9) and O’Neill coming in sixth (70-5).
Malatare won the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 30 feet and seven inches. Jenna Pablo soared to second with 29 feet and 3 inches and Fullerton was fifth (26-8).
Nelson won the javelin event with an impressive 115 feet and 11 inches, while O’Neill was fourth (77-4) and Shick was fifth (67-2).
BOYS
Arlee’s Donovan McDonald was imposing in the 1,600-meter run taking first with a time of 5:26.39, more than 14 seconds in front Hot Springs’ Nate Gray.
In other distance races, Zach Felsman was fifth (2:52.00) in the 800-meter run. Dakota Paul was fourth (16:12.00) in the 3,200-meter.
Two Eagle River’s Marcus Brown was third (2:41.58) in the 800-meter and sixth (6:07.00) in the 1,600-meter. Brown was also first (116-3) in the discus and second (34-1.5) in the shot put.
Hurdler Leif Rova took third (24.06) in the 110-meter hurdles as well as the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 24.06.
The 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Brandon Hergett, Clayton Trimble, Sam Nelson and Zach Carver came in first (52.07) in front of St. Regis second place try. The 4x400 meter relay team of Dustin Baker, Sam Nelson, Mark Fullerton and Donovan McDonald took second behind Hot Springs with a time of 4:19.69.
Nelson topped all jumpers with a first in the long jump (18-1) and the triple jump (39-1.5).
Two Eagle River’s Byron Carpentier was second in the long jump, fifth in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Teammate Skyler Rossbach was sixth in the shot put.
Warriors’ Baker (35-3) and McDonald (34-11.5) also added points in the triple jump event with fourth and fifth place finishes.
Trimble had the farthest throw in the shot put with 37-8.5, while teammate Justin Adams was third (33-10).
In the discus, Adams (104-0) and Trimble (103-6) placed third and fourth respectively.
Fullerton’s jump of 5 feet was enough to garner a second place spot in the high jump and his toss of 129 feet and 1 inch sealed the number two spot in the javelin behind Nelson’s winning throw of 137 feet and 7 inches. McDonald’s throw of 122 feet and 7 inches was fourth.
The Warriors and Scarlets are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Missoula.
