Polson’s wrestling invitational kicks off the season

POLSON – High school teams from near and far hit the mats Saturday as the Pirates hosted an invitational tournament. Along with Polson, valley teams from co-op Mission/Charlo and Ronan also participated. Out of the 14 teams that took part, Polson found their way to a sixth place team finish with a total score of 97. Mission/Charlo came in ninth with a score of 69 followed by Ronan, 52, placing the Chiefs in 10th. 

Individually, Mission/Charlo’s Jacen Peterson won the championship match by major decision (13-4) in the 170-pound weight class and Ronan’s Brandon Dumont won the championship match in the 138-pound division with a 7-0 decision. 

Polson’s Tele Seemann grabbed a second place finish with teammates Taylor Martin and Carlos Quinones each finishing third in their weights. Martin pinned Whitefish’s James Buckley in 40 seconds in the 113-pound class while Quinones’ placing came at the expense of an injured opponent at 132 pounds.

Mission’s Steven Bravo also took third in his respective weight as he pinned Ronan’s Lauren Christopher in 35 seconds. 

Thunder Morales of Polson, Tel Motichka of Polson, and Lauren Christopher of Ronan all placed fourth in their respective weights.

Polson and Ronan will compete in the Mining City Duals in Butte Dec. 13-14. Mission/Charlo will host a meet at home Dec. 12.
