The Lake County Republican Women prepared gift packages for 1-189th General Support Aviation Battalion, a helicopter unit stationed in Kuwait. The 189th is the only Montana unit still away from home for the holidays. They are based out of Helena and deployed to Kuwait for a year. There are at least three Mission Valley soldiers in this deployment, according to Kathi Normandeau.
Teachers Charla Lake and Rod Harris asked their students to write letters to the soldiers, and 150 letters were inserted in the gift bags.
New officers for the Lake County Republican Women are Susan Lake, left, president; Dorothy Ashcraft, vice president; Mary Davis, secretary and Normandeau, treasurer.
Lake County Republican Women meet the second Monday of every month. Anyone wanting to join may contact Lake at 406 676-4297.
