Editor,
Now that the House of Representatives in D.C. has passed, overwhelmingly, Joint Resolution 59, I expect to hear much thumping of chests and cries of relief that we will not be faced with another USG “shutdown” threat. Wow.
I wish that I could join in the celebration, however, the actual content of the bill gives no reason to click my heels. A reduction of the deficit by $23 billion doesn’t even register in the face of the reality of a $17 trillion national debt – I even question whether we’ll see any noticeable results at all. The liberals have, once again, co-opted the “statists” of the GOP old-guard elite, plus those who seem to be cowed by the Speaker and managed to avoid making any progress toward securing the financial future of our next several generations.
Confident in the knowledge of my ability to fully annoy my liberal friends, I must add that I was pleased that Representative Daines voted against this meaningless piece of legislation … if only our senators would follow suit and strive for useful action to address our outrageous deficit problem, both present and long term.
