Editor,
As Lake County Superintendent of Schools, our office and I had the privilege of coordinating a reservation-wide School Safety Training on Jan. 9. I wanted to take a moment and thank our local school districts and other participants for their involvement in this training. Every public school district on the Flathead Indian Reservation was represented as well as several local non-public schools. I cannot fully put into words the pride I felt at being a part of such an incredible group of caring and professional educators. Members of local law enforcement were our invited guests and again I was incredibly impressed with the quality of law enforcement personnel we have on our reservation. Chief Nash, Chief Couture, Undersheriff Yonkin, and other law enforcement personnel brought so much to our discussion and I am incredibly thankful that they took time from their schedules to join us. I hope that this will be the first of many such meetings and that the common practice on our reservation will be one of collaboration and support among all educational agencies. I want to extend a special thanks to Penny Kipp in the Tribal Education Department for agreeing to sponsor our lunch in order to keep costs down for local school districts, Kate Ike for helping me finalize last minute details, and of course Burt Cannon of Pizza Café who outdid himself in his catering of our lunch. I feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such conscientious people who take their work seriously and put forth their best every day. Thank you.
