News from the Western Montana Area Health Education Center

MISSOULA – The Western Montana Area Health Education Center will host Montana high school sophomores and juniors interested in health care careers for MedStart, a one-week summer program slated for Saturday through Friday, June 21-27, at the University of Montana.

MedStart activities will include job shadowing at local health care facilities; health science symposiums and tours; animal organ dissections; guest speakers on many health care topics; a full day on the Salish Kootenai College campus; as well as exposure to campus life and financial aid guidance. Many social events also will be held.

A total of 138 students will be chosen statewide based on their interest in pursuing a health care career after high school; minority or economic status; coming from a rural or urban underserved community; and being the first in their family to attend college.

Applications are available now at http://www.wmtahec.org

Missoula MedStart is made possible through the support of Western Montana hospital foundations, Montana GEAR UP, Salish Kootenai College School of Nursing, PacificSource, and the faculty and staff of UM’s College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences.
