DIXON — It’s a beautiful, sunny day — warmed up to 0 degrees so far. According to various weather reporting sites, the worst of the winter is behind us. Although the snow is beautiful, my yearnings go towards signs of spring, which are due to show up next month. Does anyone have ideas for chasing away blackbirds from a feeder, without bothering all the other birds? A troupe of six have invaded, intimidating the little brown birds, which have been coming all season.
The annual Dixon Ski Club-sponsored Sweetheart Dinner will be held on Friday, Feb.14, Valentine’s Day, at the Dixon School gym. Tickets are available at the school, or at the senior center on Thursday. Price is $20 a couple or $12 for a single. Come enjoy a roast beef dinner served by the students, who will please you with their polite attention to your dining enjoyment. Dinner is served from 5 until 7 p.m.
Coming up are some delicious meals for the month. My personal favorite is this Thursday:
• Thursday, Feb. 13 – Brunch for lunch – quiche, biscuits and gravy
• Monday, Feb. 17 – Chili
• Thursday, Feb. 20 – Turkey dinner
• Monday, Feb. 24 – Lasagna
• Thursday, Feb. 27 – Roast beef
Meals are $4 and we welcome all ages. Thanks to Delene for creating the lovely centerpieces for the tables this month. It’s not too late to be somebody’s Valentine. Call someone or bring them a treat, or just your company. We all appreciate friendship.
