Editor,

While I at times disagree with Mr. McClellan’s solutions to world problems, the two recent replies to his letters seems to justify his point of view.

I volunteered and fought as a Marine in a war our government decided we needed to conduct. I lived; many friends did not. Mr. McClellan never disrespected our fighting forces in his letter but cautioned that blaming Hillary for their death is non-productive if the Republicans want to regain political power. I also believe vapid chants using God, the Constitution and a “distrust of do-gooders” as a war cry works only on those who filter out American ideals that include differences, tolerance and liberty.

Where is the honest candidate on our side that speaks positively about how and what can be accomplished rather than misrepresenting information as facts and bias as values. We are a diverse nation and if the Republican Party keeps it’s current division within itself and keeps hanging on to its imagined sense of superiority, it has no chance on the national scene.

Mr. Brooks’ last line cheers on those who espouse his particular views of our nation, but if he truly believes what he says, why does he not find Mr. Obama’s election reflecting also the will of God and the will of the people?

Positive ideas expressed positively, with honesty, would be welcome in our diverse real and political world. Constant agreement is not required, nor is bluster, self-valued exhortation, or self-styled patriotism.
