POLSON — Want to learn more about Excel, PowerPoint or photo editing or just get some computer basics?

Just visit the North Lake County Library and talk to Jessica Wilson.

Wilson is the technology training specialist headquartered at the library, and she teaches free computer classes. With eight new, top-of-the-line Dell computers, an iPad and a new kid’s computer Wilson can provide students with a computer to work with during class, or they can bring their own.

Classes are free and range from basic PC training all the way to PowerPoint. She even offers an e-reader class so folks can get more familiar with their e-readers and utilize the 1,000 plus e-books available at the library.

Most people can “get on a computer and do what they need to do” but a basic computer class can make their lives so much easier, Wilson explained.

If classes aren’t what a person needs, he or she can book the tech for an hour and ask questions, Wilson said.

She also has a sign saying, "I will help you if you are 5 or 105.”

One of her students had never turned on a computer before and now wants to buy a computer. Not to neglect the younger set, Wilson also teaches a children’s class and one for everybody in between the child and adult classes.

Wilson is easy to understand, approachable and hands out reminder sheets, according to a student who took an Excel class.

Wilson also works with clients of Job Service and Working Innovations. She’s even developed a certification program so WI clients can earn credit for each class they take.

Wilson received her training in the U. S. Army, and she and her family moved to Polson from Ohio in September. She started work on Oct. 19., after being a stay-at-home mom for seven years. Her job is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates through a grant from the State of Montana.

The library is open from Monday through Saturday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday and Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
