RONAN — The Ronan boys' and girls' golf teams hosted the Ronan High School Golf Invitational Tournament April 19. The weather conditions were calm and clear as 12 boys’ teams and five girls' teams teed off at the Mission Mountain Golf Club.
The Chiefs finished third behind Thompson Falls and top finisher Loyola. The Maidens rounded out the bottom, placing fifth behind Three Forks. Townsend was the top girls’ team, trailed closely by Loyola.
“We’re doing alright but we have room for improvement, (especially) in our short game,” said first-year golfer, senior Dalton Molzhon, of the team’s chipping and putting.
The Chiefs' top golfer of the day was Alex Killian, who tied for fifth along with Loyola’s Justin Galiher. Also making the top finishers was Riley Dennis, who was 11th with a score of 83 and tied with Seeley Swan’s Quinn Nicholas, Thompson Falls’ AJ Pavlick and Thompson Falls’ Garrett Reinschmidt.
Junior Kristin Likens said she is pretty pleased with the season. The girls’ team is comprised of one senior, one junior and two sophomores.
“I’m doing pretty good (today). It’s pretty easy considering it’s our course,” Likens said, adding that the girls’ team strengths include driving and putting. But she thought everyone, including herself, could work on hitting out of the sand.
The top girl finishers included Maggie Crippen of Loyola and Bailee Dexter of Townsend going 76 and 82 respectively.
The Chiefs and the Maidens traveled to Seeley Swan Tuesday to compete in the Seeley Swan Invitational before heading to Deer Lodge Saturday.
