Editor,
Last week, I invited Dan Salomon to come to our school, Mission Valley Christian Academy, and visit with me about a number of educational topics. Dan is our local representative from House District 12 and we had connected during the last session when I was asked to testify on Dave Lewis’ Senate bill on tax credit scholarships for public and private schools.
Because Dan has 13 years of experience as a board member in the Ronan school district, I knew he could help me process several issues that are facing Montana educators and schools. We discussed Common Core standards, school choice, funding issues, testing questions along with some other topics. I have found Dan to be level headed, balanced and passionate about education. Even though we don’t agree on every topic, I have enjoyed the common sense I see in Dan’s approach to our conversations. I don’t sense an agenda or divisive spirit in his opinions as we shared our time together. He was more interested in factual information than just rumors about several hot button issues.
As we move toward elections next month, please consider voting for candidates that share Dan’s balanced thought process. There are wise men and women on both sides of the aisle so I urge you to research those candidates that can work respectfully with others to do what’s best for Montana. It’s our honor and privilege to elect worthy people to represent us. Let’s do our job right so they can do theirs well.
