Editor,

On June 14, the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Members will have the opportunity to make history by voting in a Secretarial Election to add a recall amendment to the tribal constitution under Article V - Vacancies and Removals. Your “yes” vote will add Section 3. Recall to the constitution. This is a result of you signing the recall petition on March 23, 2013. This will give the tribal membership the authority to recall any councilperson for malfeasance (which means misconduct or wrong-doing by an elected official) or if they make any infractions to the tribal constitution. BIA will be handling the election; not the tribal council. The People’s Voice, Inc. gathered approximately 1,400 signatures reservation-wide. If it were not for our tribal people, we would not be having this Secretarial Election. The recall amendment is not intended to be used dishonestly, unfairly, with malice, or out of spite against a council member. Thank you so much. Please get out and vote on June 14, and vote “yes.” We need at least 30 percent of the eligible voters who are entitled to vote to get out and vote. Lem lemts.
