DIXON — Spring is bustin’ out all over. If you’re a flower lover; bird watcher; or can just see, hear, smell, feel; this is the best time of year. The weather has been teasingly warm, mixed with blustery winds and spring rain/snow. I like this easing into summer time. My biggest surprise was to see my bleeding hearts in bloom already. That, and my first hummingbird arrived this morning. I’ve heard that they remember where they find food and return year after year. There do seem to be more hummingbirds each spring.

We were treated to our annual Senior Appreciation Lunch prepared and served by the students from Dixon School. They also entertained us with juggling, singing and dancing. They also provided some spring artwork to decorate the center. Thanks to all who helped with this, some of us don’t have daily contact with youngsters and this is a treat.

Our local ice cream treats and varied drinks stop is open and ready for whatever you want, from espresso to Italian sodas. I had my first ever soda. It was very refreshing. David Sands has his ice cream station right on the Main Street in Dixon. Just follow the signs. David will make whatever you want. Another great local product is the famous Dixon Melon. Harley Hettick informed me the ground is being readied for planting. Can you hardly wait?

Take a trip to Dixon for lunch at noon on Thursdays or dinner every Monday at 6 p.m. The weather tends to be a bit better and the meals are delicious. Meals are only $4 for all you can eat. Take-outs are also available.

The menus coming up include:

Thursday, May 8: brunch for lunch, quiche, oven French toast, bacon

Monday, May 12: Salmon patties, macaroni and cheese

Thursday, May 14: sloppy Joes, baked beans

Monday, May 19: beef and bean burritos

Thursday, May 21: pork roast

Thursday, May 29: Swiss steak

There will be no meal at the center on Memorial Day, May 26.

Do something to enjoy your springtime. Farmers’ Markets are starting.
