ST. IGNATIUS – The Lady Bulldogs had a trying week on the field, dropping four of their five games scheduled. On Thursday MAC hosted Plains, taking a loss both games against the Trotters. In game one the Lady Bulldogs fell early and were not able to gain enough momentum to catch up to Plains, ending in a 4-9 loss for Mission. Shania Dubois led her team going 2-3 with a homerun. Despite the loss, Lady Bulldog senior Alyssa Doty showed true sportsmanship when Trotters outfielder Shaira Caldwell hurt her ankle by a hard slide into third base. On an overthrow by the Lady Bulldogs, Caldwell was awarded an extra base which would have given the Trotters another run. Due to the ankle injury Caldwell was unable to stand up and walk to claim her run. Without skipping a beat, Doty, catcher for MAC, picked up the fallen Caldwell and carried her home, including bending down so Caldwell’s foot could touch home plate, then carried her to her dugout. Lady Bulldog head coach Susan Weaselhead says Doty is a “class act kid that always makes good decisions. She’s just a good person all the way around.”

As for the hero, it was all in a day’s work. Weaselhead says Doty responded to her by saying, “I didn’t even think about it coach, I just did it.”

In game two the Trotters once gain overthrew the Lady Bulldogs, though it was a much closer game, ending at 7-8. Pitcher Courtney Charlo got the loss from the circle but not before striking out eight Trotters. Morgan Malatare went 3-4 with a double while Doty picked up a pair of doubles, finishing 2-4.

On Friday the Lady Bulldogs played host to Thompson Falls and picked up a dominating 17-6 conference win. Doty led at the plate going a perfect 3-3 with a double and a triple. Connor Smith also logged a triple while adding three RBIs for her team.

Saturday MAC fell twice at home to Florence. In game one’s 7-14 loss Jaycee Anderson went 2-3 with an RBI. Game two saw the Lady Bulldogs fall 1-8. Doty and Mikaylan Roylance put up the only two hits for MAC.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Deer Lodge May 10.
