School board, fire district races decided May 8

POLSON — Election Day was May 8 for all school and fire district elections around Lake County. All the elections were by mail ballot.
In a closely-watched Polson School Board race with three seats up for grabs, unofficial results show incumbent Caryl Cox won re-election and two newcomers, John B. Kelly and Michael Leadercharge, will join the school board for three-year terms with 31.6 percent of registered voters returning their ballots.
The only levy on the ballot was for Valley View School District, and it was defeated 41 to 32.
The Upper West Shore School District and Valley View School District have a joint seat on the Polson School Board, and citizens elected Andrew Learn for a three-year term, replacing incumbent Bob Hanson.
The St. Ignatius School Board election had five candidates, and Jeff Evans with 288 votes and Brandon Gilleard with 272 won that election.
Only one vote separated Steven Matt and Dane Morigeau in the Arlee Fire District trustee election, but since there were two seats available, both men will serve.
