Editor,
Dan Salomon and Bill Barron, following successful elections, took an oath before assuming the duties of their elected offices; Mr. Salomon as State Representative for HD 93 and Bill Barron as Lake County Commissioner. Both men ran as Republicans and both men repeated the same oath whereby they swore to uphold the laws of our State and defend the rights of private citizens as defined by our National Constitution. Both men seem to be confused by what “defending the rights of private citizens” truly means. Endorsing any agreement that is in conflict with constitutionally granted freedoms causes me to think they were kidding the electorate when they recited the oath of office. For those of you who are confused by my letter, let me elaborate. Dan Salomon, if elected, has sworn to reintroduce before the 2015 legislature a flawed water compact that a Montana judge found to be unconstitutional due to numerous provisions that are in contradiction with U.S. congregational acts governing water and private property rights. Mr. Salomon’s proposed legislation is opposed by a majority of the people who will be affected by his actions.
Bill Barron, when asked in his first term commissioner race about his position on the county’s density planning, said he opposed the policy and would work for its repeal. He also jumped on the bandwagon with Dan Salomon in support of the Tribal water compact. I assume, since he gives his approval for its enactment, that he has read and understands the potential impact to all of Lake County. If the Kerr Dam and the water compact become law, Mr. Barron may be in the position of holding bake sales to meet the county’s obligations.
As voting citizens we have a choice. We know where the incumbents will steer our community. I urge all voters in our county and legislative district to get informed. Let’s send a clear message to any would-be politician, defend your oath of office, keep your word, be very cautious of radical change, and seek the spiritual guidance of the Almighty. Frank Delgado as our Representative in HD 93 and Rory Horning as our next Lake County Commissioner have pledged to conduct themselves accordingly. Now is the time to act, your vote is precious and so is our constitution. Protect them.
