My name is Keith Grebetz and I want to acknowledge the senior class from Charlo Schools. I have had the honor to be their English instructor since 7th grade and have experienced many ups and downs in those six years. The progression for these students from 7th to 12th is the following: exasperating 7th graders to curious 8th graders to wide-eyed 9th graders to evolving 10th graders to determined 11th graders to brilliant young men and women of the 12th grade.
The current accolades that these seniors have already accomplished exceed most if not all classes that have graduated through the great school of Charlo. I believe that Charlo’s sound family values, an elite sports program, rigorous academic expectations from an exceptional staff and administration, and extracurricular groups — Business Partners of America, SkillsUSA, National Honor Society, 4-H Club, and WorldQuest Academic Team — have prepared all the seniors to be career and college ready.
The senior class of 2014 at Charlo has the ensuing students committed to the following institutions:
Arizona State, Brigham Young University, Maine Maritime Academy, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Corban College in Oregon, East Wyoming College, University of Montana (3), Montana State University (2), UM-Great Falls, UM-Western, MSU-Billings, Flathead Valley Community College (3), WYO-tech College, Salish Kootenai College (2), and two into the military.
What an amazing accomplishment. What’s more astonishing is the amount of scholarships that these students worked incredibly hard for. As of May 22, the seniors have been awarded an astounding $500,000-plus in scholarships to attend college.
This particular class has a special place in my heart. I mean after six years, we obviously have become teacher to students, boss to colleagues, friend to friends. I will be anxiously hearing about their future successes in life and employment for the rest of my life and be extremely proud to be a part of it.
As 9th graders, we took on the Latin phrase “Pergo et Perago,” meaning “I undertake and I achieve.” The Charlo Senior Class of 2014 undertook and overachieved in all aspects of community, academics, extracurricular groups, and sporting events. Charlo is proud of all of the seniors and expect great accomplishments in being “Amurica’s” next leaders. May the force be with all of you.
