Editor,

I don’t need to say “I will” because I have. I am running for re-election in the Montana House of Representatives in House District #93. I am the “proven” conservative. My voting record shows action behind my promises.

• Reduction of Government – I voted for reducing the size of government in Montana by more than 430 full time equivalent positions last session.

• Education – I supported and pushed for tuition freeze and performance-based budgeting for our education systems, a more equitable funding system for primary and secondary education in our state, school safety, truancy reforms, concussion protection and flexibility for special needs students in our school systems.

• Property Rights – My voting record received a 94 percent rating by the United Property Owners of Montana.

• Business and Jobs – Serving as the vice chairman of the Business and Labor Committee, I cast votes that will move towards improving the business climate in Montana. I have received a 97 percent rating from the Montana Contractors Association and 100 percent from the Montana Chamber of Commerce.

• Agriculture – I have served two terms on the House Agriculture Committee. I am the strong voice needed for this mainstay of Montana, a community that is underrepresented on the House floor as there are currently only 13 members with ties to agriculture.

• Water Compact – I do support the Compact Water Agreement. The “facts” prove that everyone’s rights are being protected. I have researched and attended countless meetings on this issue, hearing many different points of view. Not being in agreement does not mean that I don’t, or have not listened. Claims that are made over and over, but have no basis in law, are not fact.

There is a lot to learn in the legislature and I have the history and knowledge to be effective from the opening session. I have an understanding of the laws and judicial precedents, the legislative system, and know how to sift through rhetoric and get the real and proven facts. I have, and if re-elected, will continue to represent the people of Montana with common sense leadership, an open mind and a willing ear to listen.
