Editor,

This letter is written for my husband, Mitch Young, in rebuttal to claims circulating via email and other communications.

I’ve known Mitch Young for 32 years. We met in 1982 and have been married since 1990. As his wife, I wonder how much credibility will be given my words, and yet, few people know him better than I do.

I can tell you, no one has more passion for the prosecuting profession than he does. Mitch doesn’t work 8-5; he’s always on-call, available to work with law enforcement to insure he has the evidence he needs in court to successfully prosecute offenders.

When he’s wrong, he apologizes. When he’s right, he does not back down. Sometimes that makes him unpopular, but this is not a popularity contest. It’s an elected position that requires continually updated legal knowledge, the ability to work with numerous individuals and agencies, experience prosecuting, (which differs significantly from defense work), and the ability to daily immerse oneself in some of the most distressing details of human behavior, and then go home at the end of the day and revel in the goodness of life here in Lake County.

I encourage anyone who has not met him, or who has questions, to call him at (406) 218-1690, and attend the May 30 forum, 7 p.m., at the Round Butte Gym.

Julie Young
