Decisions not based on skin color

Editor,
Are there different ethnic heritages in your family? I can add the blessing of racial mixtures in mine. That is why I find it offensive when Anna Whiting Sorrell is quoted in this paper saying that Republicans “don’t like President Obama because he is a person of color.”
Actually our president is likeable as a person. I don’t like most of his policies, but that has nothing to do with him personally. In fact, there are liberal Democrats in my family, and I like them.
Can’t we discuss policy without negative slogans? How can Republicans wage a war on women when I am a Republican woman? My opinions on the water compact and Medicaid expansion have nothing to do with race.
So when my beautiful little mixed race kiddies arrive, I will smother them with hugs and kisses. And you can be sure while I serve as your Montana State Senator for District 6 that I will not make policy decisions based on the color of anyone’s skin.
