Editor,
In response to the Bob M. letter last week calling Republicans “the Party of No - determined to fight Obama at every turn” I guess B.M. has a short memory or a selective one. Obama campaigned saying he would work with both parties to get things done. But once Obama was elected, the first thing he did was direct Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Max Baucus to get an Obamacare bill on his desk by the end of the year no matter what it took.
He instructed them to do it behind closed doors and not to allow any input, suggestions, amendments, etc., from Republicans. The Republicans were to be shut out completely, and were. You see Bob, that it is what started your so-called “Party of No.” Why would they bend over backwards for Obama after that took place? Obama set the tone for “cooperation” from day one.
And the real obstructionist has been Harry Reid. Harry Reid has over 35 good job bills sitting on his desk that were passed in the House, most of them bipartisan. Harry Reid has refused to bring even one up for a vote. Why Bob? Is he Obama’s lap dog or just acting on his own? Harry Reid has refused to bring dozens, and possibly hundreds, of good bills up for a vote during the last five years.
Reid is pretty much the “dictator in charge” — deciding which bills he will allow to be voted on. We send our Congress people to DC to be our voice, yet Reid will not let our Senators even have a vote on dozens of good bills. What is he afraid of? So there you have it — Reid represents Obama and the real Party of No. Reid has to be the most incompetent Senate Majority leader in history, and President Obama has now moved Jimmy Carter into second place as the most incompetent President in US history.
