News from P.E.O. Sisterhood

POLSON — Sharidan Russell, recent graduate from Polson High School, is a recipient of the prestigious $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international philanthropic and educational women’s organization.

Sharidan was selected from among a total of 1,890 applicants. Nationwide there were 350 recipients of the scholarship, 13 of whom are from Montana. She is the first student from the Mission Valley to receive the award and was recommended by P.E.O. Chapter CA, Polson. This highly-sought after scholarship is based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success.

She said that the STAR Scholarship, along with other scholarships she has received, means that her first year of college is completely paid for with no loans required. She has been accepted at Dartmouth College where she will study Arabic and plans a double major in political science and international relations. She is the daughter of Mark and Lori Russell, Polson.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded in 1869 with seven members, now has 6,000 local chapters in the U.S. and Canada with almost 250,000 initiated members. The P.E.O. Sisterhood has given $235 million in financial assistance to almost 90,400 recipients. The P.E.O. Sisterhood owns Cottey College, a fully accredited, private liberal arts and sciences college for women with two-year and selected four-year programs and is located in Nevada Missouri.
