Editor,
Have you heard the song, “I Wish It Could Be Christmas All Year Long”? I was reminded of that wish following the Memorial Day ceremony held at Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana on May 26. I thought of transferring the same sentiments to Memorial Day — wishing we could express our sense of pride in our veterans, remember their sacrifices and dedication in serving our country, and convey our thanks more than two or three days a year during certain holidays. It was special, indeed, to see members of the Veterans Honor Guard in uniform and witness their respect for the flag and their fellow veterans. We thank Chuck Lewis for organizing the participants and adding this ceremony to their schedule; we thank Gil Mangles from the Miracle of American Museum for sharing his Vietnam-era jeep display on the grounds that afternoon; a special thanks to Bill and Janet Austin for taking pictures of the ceremony and sharing them with the museum; to the Morton family for providing a delicious meal to the veterans following the flag ceremony; and to everyone who came and enjoyed the special exhibit we had at the museum honoring a few local veterans.
Most of all, a sincere thank you to our Mission Valley veterans.
