Scarlets fever, It’s contagious: Arlee shocks Noxon, advances to district title game

The Scarlets surprised many people by making the title game of the District 14-C Tournament in Ronan Saturday, but the tournament is not yet over for Arlee.
Despite advancing to the tournament's championship game, the Scarlets will now have to face Hot Springs in a challenge game Monday night to determine who will be the second team representing the district at this week's Divisional Tournament in Butte. Charlo earned the other spot by winning the district title.
There was little the Scarlets could do against the 10th-ranked Lady Vikings in the title game Saturday as Charlo cruised to a 57-24 victory in the title game. The Lady Vikings showed the power of their full-court press in the game's opening quarter, using defense to run out to a 14-1 lead over Arlee after eight minutes of play.
Arlee rebounded with an eight-point second quarter but Charlo added another 19 points to grab a commanding 33-9 halftime advantage.
It was more of the same in the second half as Charlo outscored the Scarlets 24-14 to get the win.
Mahalia Hendren led the Scarlets with 13 points and 13 rebounds in the loss while Whitney Malatare added nine and Tayla Desjarlais had two points.
The Scarlets raised eyebrows Friday as they opened the tournament with a 62-36 upset win over Noxon.
The Scarlets entered the game with a 5-11 record but had little trouble powering past the 12-4 Lady Red Devils for the victory.
Kristyn Adams' recorded a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Arlee in the victory while Hendren scored 18 and Malatare chipped in with 10 points.
The Scarlets had a narrow 12-10 lead after one quarter but pushed their advantage to 22-15 at the half. The third quarter was the real difference in the contest as Arlee outscored Noxon 21-4 to take a 43-19 lead into the final eight minutes of action. Arlee continued to outscore the Lady Red Devils in the fourth as the Scarlets picked up the win.
Jordyn Wilkinson led Noxon with 16 points in the loss.
Arlee faced Hot Springs in the challenge game Monday evening. Results were not available at press time.
