Editor,

I would like to give a big thank you to the Lake County voters in the recent primary election; your overwhelming support is greatly appreciated. For those of you who do not know who I am, my name is Randal “Randy” Owens. My wife Peggy and I have been married for 33 years. We raised our two daughters, Heather and Lauren, in Lake County. I have been employed with the Montana Highway Patrol for more than 22 years. Since 2008 I have served as the Sergeant for the Lake County Detachment. Prior to my service with the Highway Patrol I owned my own business and served in the US Army.

I would be honored to serve the citizens of Lake County as the next Justice of the Peace. Requirements of this job are a good working knowledge of the laws, good common sense, respect for everyone, and the ability to maintain a fair and efficient court. I have spent the past 22 years enforcing these laws — I know the law. In my current position it is necessary to make critical decisions in a very short matter of time. I know how to interact with the public and respect everyone’s opinion. I know how to analyze evidence and make sound decisions.

This position also requires a good manager who can work with the office staff and have a good working relationship with the Public Defender’s Office, the County Attorney’s Office, the District Court Judges, the local law enforcement agencies, and most importantly the citizens of Lake County. I will be fair, firm, consistent, and work for an efficient and impartial Peoples Court. I am not an attorney or a politician and this is not what is needed in this court of limited jurisdiction. It would be an honor and a privilege to continue serving Lake County as your next Justice of the Peace. Thank you again for your past and future support.

Randal “Randy” Owens
