Editor,

The Valley Journal article “City of Ronan revamping hiring procedures” on June 18, 2014, was excellent and right on course, if the City of Ronan’s mayor and city council takes Lake County’s Undersheriff Dan Yonkin’s hiring process recommendations seriously. This stringent hiring process for patrolman is normally used throughout the United States in law enforcement personnel hiring. Some hiring procedures are somewhat different in hiring a chief of police/law enforcement executive management position due to the applicant’s prior police experience, training and expertise, including management and supervision of others, which is very important. Lake County’s Sheriff’s Department sets an excellent example on their hiring procedures and requirements, which turns out top quality officers. Ronan Police Department has a long way to go to reach that goal. The Ronan mayor and city council members have to bring in new policies that meet State and Federal Laws governing hiring and training for law enforcement officers.

My question is now, what is the city of Ronan currently going to do to provide adequate law enforcement services and protection for its citizens?
