Judge Deborah Kim Christopher dealt with the following cases on Thursday, June 26:
David Lawrence Minter, 40, pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of assault with a weapon and failure to give notice of violent offender, also a felony.
According to court documents, charges stem from a June 10 incident where Minter allegedly hit a man in the head when the man asked to use Minter’s lighter. When another man asked why Minter did that, Minter allegedly hit that man in the mouth, stuck his finger in his eye, and bit him on the leg. Minter then left and came back with a club and a serrated steak knife. Minter threatened to kill them and blow them up while he was turning on the trailer’s propane tank. Minter left. When a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy contacted Minter by phone, Minter told the deputy to “go f—- yourself.” Further investigation revealed an extensive criminal history, according to court documents. Minter was released from prison in Georgia on Sept. 22 after serving a sentence for aggravated assault. Lake County Sheriff’s Office has no record of Minter registering as a violent offender in Lake County.
Christopher Brown, 39, Polson, in a change of plea pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fourth or subsequent offense, a felony. The court found him guilty. A $50,000 surety bond is in effect. Sentencing is set for Oct. 2.
According to court documents, charges stem from a March 9 incident where Brown drove his truck into a hayfield and was spinning in circles. Residents went out in the field and stopped him, noticing the odor of alcohol in the cab. One man was angry that Brown was driving drunk in an area where his family routinely worked, and he punched Brown in the face and told Brown to wait for the police to arrive. Field sobriety tests indicated Brown was impaired, and his breath test revealed his blood alcohol concentration was .172.
