Editor,
It is important for all tribal member shareholders to get involved with their tribal council. Go to TC meetings, ask council for total accounting of shareholders' monies. Large monies transactions should be brought to CSKT members for approval or disapproval.
I attended Patty Stevens’ meeting in Mission and asked her if there was a chance the people could get a bigger per cap payment this August. I explained to her that we all went through a very hard winter and a lot of people were still trying to play catch-up with the bills. Parents are having a hard time getting what their kids need for school. She replied, “Where would we get the money?” I told her, “Well, tribal council just gave $22,000 to the Republican party.” Now, the Democrats want $25,000. Lloyd Irving asked, “Why are we donating $22,000 to the Republicans when it’s only the primaries?” Many individuals feel that CSKT should stay politically neutral.
There should be a loophole that council could figure out to give the people higher per caps, at least before school starts.
I also told her we need good doctors and not pill pushers. They need to give our doctors and nurses higher wages so we will have decent medical care.
It is so sad that when a person needs serious medical care you have so many loopholes to go through. The doctor messed on my prescription and now I sit in pain every day waiting for surgery. This needs to stop now. A review board only meets once a week for approval or disapproval for special medical service. If your request is missed you have to wait another entire week for the review board to convene. If you are disapproved, then you have to make an appointment with your doctor to request another review of medical problem.
I feel that all high paying individuals in health care should be removed from their positions and use that money to buy us individual insurance.
