‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. POLSON — The national event, “Fields of Faith,” will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. on the Polson High School football field. All ages are welcome. There will be a youth band. Come and be inspired by high school and University of Montana athletes sharing their faith. Every attendee will receive a free T-shirt and a devotional. DAYTON — The Lake County Public Health Department will offer flu shots to the public at Dayton Presbyterian Church on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 1:30 – 3 p.m. The cost is $25. Seniors, please remember to bring your Medicare Part B coverage cards as that will pay for your flu shot.

You may also get your flu shot at our walk-in immunization clinic held every Tuesday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. or you may call and schedule an appointment. The Lake County Public Health Department is located at 802 Main Street in Polson. Call (406) 883-7288, with your questions.

Investigate birds, climate change

POLSON — “Birds, Climate Change, and Us” by Amy Cilimburg, a wildlife biologist and the Director of Bird Conservation and Climate Policy for Montana Audubon, will be presented the Mission Mountain Audubon’s program on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Amy will take a deeper look into the Audubon report, the largest and most comprehensive examination of birds and climate change ever. Come listen to Cilimburg speak about “climate-smart conservation.”

Movie, smoke jumper artifacts highlighted

POLSON — At the Miracle of America Museum on Thursday, Oct. 9, the 1952 feature length movie “Red Skies of Montana” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. The movie is based on the 1949 tragic Mann Gulch fire. A short tour of the museum’s smoke jumper related artifacts collection will precede the film.

Sedivy to discuss Flathead Lake

POLSON — Heidi Sedivy, Flathead Lakers Education and Outreach Coodinator and Invasive Species Specialist, will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Oct. 10, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. She will describe the work being done to protect Flathead Lake from invasive species.

Pachyderms meet at the Polson Rural Fire Hall on Regatta Road near the fairgrounds. All those interested in learning about this vital issue are welcome. The meeting begins at noon and adjourns at 1 p.m. The social time begins at 11:30 a.m.

PAT to hold free Halloween event

POLSON — The Parents as Teachers is sponsoring a “Community Connection” event open to all area parents on Friday, Oct. 17, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The lunchtime event takes place in the Public Health Department’s conference room at 802 Main Street.

They will show you how to make some healthy Halloween treats and talk about fun ideas for the holiday. Information about the PAT program and lunch will be provided. A Ninja smoothie maker is the door prize and donated baby and toddler clothes are there to take home.

The PAT program is a free, voluntary program that provides twice monthly home visits with age-appropriate activities for children from birth to age five, developmental screenings, and information and referrals to area resources. Parents can be enrolled in the PAT program as soon as they are pregnant. For more information, call the Lake County Health Department at (406) 883-7209.
