‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. POLSON —All Lake County Democrats are invited to come together on Thursday, Oct. 5, for an Oktoberfest, where you will meet new friends and connect with old friends. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. at Glacier Brewery, Tenth Ave. E. Bring an appetizer to share. Live music will be provided by Hunter, Torres and Much. A free-will donation bucket will be passed.

POLSON — The Kiwanis Club meet the first and third Thursday of each month at the KwaTaqNuk Resort, Koostatah room from noon-1 p.m. Our speaker on Oct. 5 will be Amy Vaughan, Director of Operations of the Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County. She will talk about the After School Program, services of the club, and projections for building in Ronan and Polson. Please feel free to join us for a cup of coffee/lunch and become informed about this valuable service to the children in our community.

Gallery presents work of renowned artist through Nov. 11

POLSON — Takes Horse Gallery, 49487 US Highway 93, is proud to present “Art in Autumn,” an exhibition featuring the work of renowned artist John Gawne. A member of the CM Russell Museum’s elite Skull Society, John Gawne’s paintings of the western landscape and Native Americans are shown in some of the most prestigious galleries in the country. This is a unique opportunity see his work, as well as paintings by some of Montana’s and the Northwest’s best artists: John Gawne, David Dragonfly, DG House, Tabby Ivy, John Pepion, Rachel Warner and Shannon Webster. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, from 4-8 p.m. The exhibition will run from Oct. 6-Nov. 11.

Free class on genealogy databases offered

POLSON — North Lake County Public Library is offering a free class on Ancestry. com and HeritageQuest on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. in the library meeting room. The class will cover the basics of these genealogy databases, both of which are made available to the public by the library. HeritageQuest can be accessed from any location using your active library card. Ancestry.com is available for use in the library. Attendees are welcome to bring their own laptops or tablets. Registration is required and refreshments will be served. North Lake County Public Library is located at 2 First Ave. E. Learn about water and microbes

POLSON — “Water and microbes: The tiny engines that keep the world habitable” by Dr. Matthew Church will be Mission Mountain Audubon’s next program on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Polson Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome. Matt’s talk will explore how we study aquatic microbes and describe some of what we’ve learned about the roles of these tiny organisms in controlling ecosystem health. Dr. Matthew Church is a professor of aquatic microbial ecology at the University of Montana’s Flathead Lake Biological Station.

Pachyderm Club updated on Montana budget

POLSON — The Lake County Pachyderm Club will meet on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the Polson Rural Fire Dept. building on Regatta Road. Social time is from 11:30 a.m.-noon when the business meeting begins. Guest speaker will be House District 11 Representative Greg Hertz. He will give an update on Montana’s current budget crisis. Hometown heroes awarded

POLSON — This month’s Resource Roundtable will be SAFE Harbor’s Annual Honoring Ceremony for community members who have stepped forth to help break the cycle of violence. As part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SAFE Harbor takes nominees from the community for “hometown heroes” who went beyond the call of duty in the last year. Join us for lunch and to recognize some wonderful citizens on Oct. 18 at noon in the Lake County Health Department Conference Room.
