Bus route changes discussed
POLSON — The Lake County School Transportation Committee will be meeting Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. in the Land Services conference room of the Lake County Courthouse. Neal Lewing to host Gary Cooper event
POLSON – North Lake County Public Library in Polson will host the Montana Conversations program “Gary Cooper: First, Last and Always” presented by Neal Lewing on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. in the library meeting room. The presentation is free and open to the public. Free Gary Cooper movies will also be shown in the library meeting room on Wednesday, Feb. 1 and Thursday, Feb. 2. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served. The movie “High Noon” will play on Feb. 1, and “Sergeant York” will be shown on Feb. 2. Both begin at 2 p.m.

POLSON — Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes are scheduled for six Tuesdays, Jan. 24-Feb. 28. Chamber to hear from LCCDC director
POLSON — Gypsy Ray, Executive Director of the Lake County Community Development Corporation, will speak at the Feb. 1 Chamber of Commerce meeting. LCCDC cultivates economic growth in western Montana by offering unique resources to develop community, business and food and agriculture enterprises. Three recruits to sign on Feb. 1
POLSON — Come support three Polson High School seniors as they sign their intent to play college football. Matthew Rensvold and Tanner Wilson will attend the University of Montana in Missoula and Jonah Burke will play for Montana Tech in Butte. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with signing at 6 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Polson Elks Club.

Free tax assistance offered
POLSON — The AARP Tax-Aide Program provides free help in preparing and electronically filing federal and state income tax returns for low to moderate-income taxpayers. This service is free to taxpayers of any age. Help will be available at the Polson Senior Center every Monday and Thursday during the month of February by appointment only. Call 406- 883-4735.

County drug issues, solutions discussed
POLSON — Lake County Sheriff Don Bell, Polson Police Chief Wade Nash, and Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Police Chief Craige Couture, all members of the Lake County Drug Enforcement Team, will speak about the county’s drug issues and solutions at the Monday, Feb. 6, meeting of the Lake County Republican Women’s Club to be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Sheriff’s room of the Polson Rural Fire Department building on Regatta Road.

POLSON — The Flathead Lake Biological Station and The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will present “Invasive Mussels: What you Need to Know,” at the KwaTaqNuk Resort in the Alexander room on Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. Come join experts in mussel biology, research and monitoring to learn more about this serious threat, what we are doing, and what you can do. Forester to speak at Pachyderm Club meeting
POLSON — Jim Simpson, chairman of the Lake County Conservation District and retired forester, will be the featured speaker at the Friday, Feb. 10, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. He will describe the proposed establishment of a 60,000-acre Conservation Forest on U.S. Forest Service land in the Swan Valley, all within the boundaries of the LCCD and Lake County. The meeting begins at noon, adjourns at 1 p.m., and is held in the Rural Polson Fire Department Building, 25 Regatta Road, Polson. The meeting is open to the public.

'Quilt Walk Around Polson' quilt show Feb. 11 through 25
POLSON — The 16th Annual All In Stitches Quilt Walk Around Polson quilt show starts today. Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite quilts displayed in businesses on Main Street from Feb. 11-22. You can pick up your ballots at All In Stitches. Ribbons will be hung on the winning quilts on Feb. 23 and quilts will be on display through Feb. 25.
Support mental health services at benefit
POLSON — Sunburst Mental Health Services is putting on a benefit at the Polson Elks Club on Saturday, Feb. 11, with musicians Jack Gladstone, Troy La-Roche, the Hot Flash Blues Band and Buffalo and Rose performing. A silent auction starts at 5 p.m. with a Tribal blessing and music to follow until midnight. Tickets are $20-$35 per couple in advance and $25-$40 per couple at the door. Tickets may be purchased at any Sunburst outlet and at Mission Mt. Natural Foods. Any and all donations are accepted. Call 406-883-4060 for more information.
WinterFest fundraiser supports ice arena
POLSON — The Mission Valley Ice Arena Association invites the community to celebrate winter at their first WinterFest in Polson from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Riverside Park. The event includes free broomball lessons and short games. The broomball game, similar to hockey, does not require a special ice surface or skates. Special edition MVIAA jerseys, 50/50 tickets and rifle raffle tickets will be available for purchase to help the group meet their $25,000 matching funds challenge to build the proposed ice rink. Park on the street above the park, or in the First Citizen’s Bank lot, and use caution walking down the hill or stairs.
