Mt. Calvary, Zion combine for one service
POLSON — Congregations and friends of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran will join in one service at 9:30 a.m. in Polson (across from the high school) on April 21. Rev. Kyle Whaley serves both churches and shares his time between St. Ignatius and Polson. Following the worship service, a fellowship brunch has been planned.

Living history presentation on tap in Big Arm
BIG ARM — The Historic School in Big Arm will host “Mrs. Woody’s Trunk full of Memories” with Jennie Pak, on Friday, April 26, at the monthly potluck. Social time starts at 5:30 p.m., the potluck is at 6 p.m. and the living history presentation is at 7 p.m. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Jennie Pak will present this living history interpretation of Sarah Elizabeth Woody, one of Montana’s early pioneer women.

Tax expert to speak at Pachyderm meeting
POLSON — “Taxes: Now and Near Future, current developments in income taxes and a forecast of upcoming tax changes” will be the topic of guest speaker, Walter J. Kero, at the Friday, April 26, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club.
Kero is a certified public accountant with the accounting firm of Junkermier, Clark, Campanella, Stevens, P.C. in Missoula. He is a 1973 graduate of the University of Montana with a degree in business administration and a major in accounting. His career has been devoted to corporate financial management, tax return preparation (individual, partnership and corporate), auditing and he has been responsible for all aspects of a public accounting firm. He is also active in Missoula’s community life.
Anyone interested in this very timely subject is cordially invited to attend the meeting, which begins with a social time at 11:30 a.m. The business meeting starts at noon and adjourns at 1 p.m. The meeting is held in the Polson Rural Fire Department Hall on Regatta Road west of the bridge in Polson.

Dance gathering celebrates Cinco de Mayo early
POLSON — On May 1, there will be an early celebration dance for Cinco de Mayo from 7-10 p.m. at the Elks. Ken’s Country Combo will play tunes. Requests are welcome. It’s recommended you wear bright colors to this dance and be sure to bring your friends. Treats are welcome and appreciated.
Hertz, Taylor to speak at chamber meeting
POLSON — Mark your calendars for the May 1 general meeting of the Polson Chamber of Commerce at noon at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Our speakers will be Greg Hertz and Janna Taylor. A full-meal luncheon will be served for $14.

Black Satin Revue to present ‘Red’

Interested parties needed to fill trustee position
POLSON — The Polson School Board of Trustees is asking for letters of interest from parties wishing to serve on the Polson School Board as a trustee for the Polson School District. Any person assuming this trustee position under the provisions of MCA 20-3-309, section (3) shall serve until the next regular school election to be held in May 2014. All letters of interest may be submitted to Pam Owen, business manager, on or before 3 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013. Port Polson Players perform ‘Guys and Dolls’
POLSON — The Port Polson Players in association with the Mission Valley Friends of the Arts will present the fabled Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls” on May 3, 4, and 5 at the beautiful John Dowdall Theatre. Saint Andrew’s to hold spring yard sale
POLSON — Saint Andrew’s Church, 110 6th Ave. E. is holding a spring yard sale on Friday, May 3, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m.-noon. There will be a with $2 bag sale from 1-2 p.m.
There will be electronics, books, house wares, toys, furniture, antiques, plants, jewelry, and no clothing for sale. Sale items will be located in the backyard and inside.

‘Big doings’ happening at Polson VFW
POLSON — On May 4, the Polson VFW will hold two events. Upstairs, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., a flea market/arts and crafts sale will benefit the “National Home,” an organization that helps veterans’ families. Downstairs, from 7 p.m. to whenever the bands quit, there will be the annual “Musicians Gone but not Forgotten” music event. Five bands and special guests will entertain attendees: Jimni, Compression, Bad Weather, NFA and Hot Flash Blues Band. Proceeds will benefit the Mission Valley Animal Shelter.
Join fifth annual community Earth Day celebration
PABLO — Walkers, bikers, runners and rollers are invited to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., along Highway 93/pedestrian path in Ronan, Pablo and Polson. There will be checkpoints along the way to get your passports and stamps. Receive four stamps on your passport and you get a delicious “Made in Montana” lunch. A bike safety course, bike maintenance and lunch all culminate at the Joe McDonald Activity Center on SKC campus.
Checkpoint stations will provide healthy information and a variety of giveaways. Parking available at Baptiste Road, SKC Event Center or the Transfer Station on Minesinger Road. Winery to teach about food, wine pairings
DAYTON — Come to Mission Mountain Winery, Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., for our annual “Red Wine and Chocolate” event. This is a chance for visitors to learn about the food and wine pairings of various chocolate delights and their corresponding red wines. This free event is a part of the winery’s continuing program to educate the community about the pleasurable synergies created by the pairing of food and wine.
