Miracle of America Museum announced monthly activity
POLSON — On Thursday, Jan 9, at 6: 30 p.m., a program entitled, “Think Snow,” will include a video of rare operating snow vehicles from the museum collection and a tour of some of the tools and toys of winter on display. Dress warmly and come earlier if you want to see some of the outside collection.

Sewing machine maintenance class
There will be a sewing machine maintenance class on Jan. 9 at the St. Ignatius Senior Center held in conjunction with the Thursday Quilters. Bring your machine, a project to work on, a potluck dish to share and $10 for the class, which takes place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
WATCHD.O.G.S. Program begins with pizza night
POLSON — Dads and Kids’ Pizza Night kicks off a new innovative father-involvement program called WATCHD.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) on Thursday, Jan. 9, from 6-7 p.m. at Linderman Elementary, 114 Fourth Ave. E. WATCH D.O.G.S. is the father-involvement initiative of the National Center For Fathering. Inspired by one father’s desire to increase male involvement in his children’s school and with the help of the school's teachers and administration, WATCH D.O.G.S was created in 1998.

Art gallery hosts opening reception
POLSON — Sandpiper Art and Gift Gallery, 306 Main Street, announces the first exhibit of the New Year entitled: “First in Fourteen.” Members Kelly Apgar (monochromatic work composed of found objects), Paula Craft (B and W photography), Maryann Eikens (bronze sculptures) and Donna Rolfson (paintings) have put together a show of new works to open the season. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, from 5-7 p.m. The show will hang until Feb. 14.

Hospital administrator to speak at Pachyderm meeting
POLSON — James Kiser, CEO of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, will be the featured speaker at the Friday, Jan. 10, meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club. He will speak on the state of healthcare and St. Joseph’s position in regard to a new clinic being constructed in Polson by Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Pachyderms meet at the Polson Rural Fire Department building west of the bridge on Regatta Road. Social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with the business meeting starting at noon.

Quilt Guild announces meeting schedule change
RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their January meeting on Jan. 11 instead of Jan. 7. We will host a “Sew-in” from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Terrace Lake Community Church in Ronan. An appreciation dinner will be provided at noon, with a gift bag exchange (as planned for our cancelled meeting in December). The meeting will take place right after lunch. Please bring your sampler block of the month to show and your show and tell, plus any project you might want to spend the day sewing on – maybe your challenge project. Everyone is welcome
Video series explores American Indian status
ARLEE — A four-part video series exploring the unique status of American Indian Tribes and narrated by Dan Decker, J.D. will take place at the Hangin’ Art Gallery at 1 p.m. Parts I and II will be shown on Saturday, Jan. 11.
There is no charge and respectful discussions will follow the videos.

Meet drug-sniffing dog
POLSON — The newest member of the Mission Mountain Drug Taskforce, a canine named Llop, will make his debut at a public meeting held at the North Lake County Public Library in Polson on Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and meet the new team member with especially watchful eyes and a prominent nose.

Huge winter yard sale on tap
NORTH CROW — On Jan. 17 and 18 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. a winter yard sale, sponsored by The People’s Voice, Inc., a non-profit organization, will take place at the North Crow Creek Club House. Food and baked goods, sponsored by The People to People Youth Delegates, will be also be available.

RONAN — On Jan. 18 KC and the Valley Cats jazz band will play at VFW from 7-10 p.m. Treats are very welcome. Bring your friends to the VFW on Round Butte Road. It is the best place to be on a Saturday night.

St. Ignatius chosen as site for DAR meeting
ST. IGNATIUS — The Kuilix chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the United Methodist Church, north of St. Ignatius on Hwy 93 (top of the hill). Refreshments will be served at noon. Our guest speaker, Judge Brenda C. Desmond from Missoula Veterans’ Court, will speak on “Keeping Faith with Veterans.”
Four local high schools have contestants for the DAR sponsored “Good Citizen Essay” contest to be awarded in February. Who will be the grand prizewinner?

Give blood in Charlo, support Red Cross
CHARLO — The Ponderosa Chapter of the National Honor Society at Charlo High School is once again sponsoring a Charlo Community Blood Drive. The drive will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 1-6 p.m. in the multi-purpose gym. Our goal is 33 units, which requires us to have 45 appointments.
