‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Gallery features Native American art show

POLSON — Sandpiper Art Gallery is hosting the Native American Art Invitational Feb. 26 through April 5 at the gallery located at 306 Main St. in Polson.

Salish and Kootenai College Art Department faculty and students have contributed work to this exhibit. New SKC Art Department Director Karen Goulet and faculty member Frank Finley are both featured. Native American artists Ben Pease and D.G. House have also been invited to exhibit work. An opening reception will be held at the Gallery on Friday, March 1, from 5-7pm.

Quilters to socialize

RONAN — The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold it’s annual potato social on April 2 at 6 p.m. at the Terrace Lake Community Church on Terrace Lake Road. Guests are invited. Our meeting will start at 7 p.m.  Donita Reeves of Lakeside Quilting in Polson will be showing us how to piece quilt backing using a diagonal cutting method. The quilt show is in August. Be working on your challenge quilts, your theme quilts, the backing for the ribbons and things for the Country Store. Don’t forget the Toni Whitney class scheduled for March 23. Charlo presents urban ‘Romeo and Juliet’

CHARLO — The Charlo Schools’ drama department is excited to announce their spring production of “Yo…RÕmz and Jules…Eastside Westside,” an urban, modern version of the classic Shakespeare play “Romeo and Juliet.” The show has rap songs, classic love-rock ballads, a mix of traditional Old English, a blend of modern slang and performances by our own Charlo Voices. The production is based on an original script created by former student Spencer Shafter, current student Trinceton Brown and the drama teacher Keith Grebetz.

The show is on Thursday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Charlo gymnasium. Admission is $3 for bleacher seats or $5 for reserved seating, which includes cheesecake and a beverage during a short intermission break.

Ninepipes Museum opens for 15th season

CHARLO – The Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana celebrates its 15th season and will open its doors for the 2013 season on April 4 at 10 a.m. The museum will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays through May 24. Starting Memorial Day Weekend and going through Labor Day, the museum will be open six days a week, Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The museum will offer new exhibits and experiences this season with board members and volunteers looking forward to seeing friends and neighbors as well as visitors from afar.

Mayor plans day of recognition

RONAN — The first ever “Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service” will be held on Tuesday, April 9. Ronan Mayor Kim Aipperspach will open the reception at the Ronan City Library at noon to recognize local national service volunteers in the Ronan area. Coffee and cake will be served. There are currently as many as 60 local volunteers serving our community through national service organizations that include: RSVP Volunteer Center, Foster Grandparents and AmeriCorps.

St. Ignatius lists kindergarten roundup requirements

ST. IGNATIUS — Kindergarten roundup at St. Ignatius Elementary takes place on Tuesday, April 9, from 9 -11 a.m. and 12 - 3 p.m.

Your child must be 5 years old by Sept. 10, 2013 to attend kindergarten this coming fall. Guardians must bring the following with them: the child, the child’s immunizations, the child’s birth certificate, guardian identification, and proof of residency.
