‘Park After Dark’ winter hike offered at Lone Pine State Park

KALISPELL — On Wednesday, Feb. 16, from  7:30-9 p.m. experience Lone Pine State Park on a wintery night on this full moon hike. Moon views vary depending on cloud cover, but you’re guaranteed a nighttime adventure that experiences the park after hours. Be sure to dress for the weather. Trails are typically icy at this time of year, so wear micro spikes like Yaktrax if there’s snow on the ground. We’ll have snowshoes available if needed. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp. Call the visitor center at 406-755-2706, ext. 0, to register, as space is limited. Cost is $4 per hiker ($8 entry fee for non-resident vehicles).

 

‘Prepare to be Bear Aware’ education class offered at Lone Pine

 

 

KALISPELL — On Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at Lone Pine State Park Visitor Center, you can learn safety tips and tools to keep people safe and bears wild as they emerge from their dens this spring. Join us as we share practical strategies designed to minimize bear-human conflicts and promote coexistence. From securing garbage bins to proper food storage techniques, we will share provide invaluable insights into creating bear-resistant environments. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and take action for the well-being of all. Registration is required as space is limited. There is no charge for this program. Arlee to hold free screening clinic

ARLEE — A free Developmental and Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 to 5 for Arlee School District will be held on Oct. 29, 2024, from 9 a.m.–11:30 a.m. at Arlee Elementary School. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, hearing and vision screening.

Attend ‘Here Comes the Sun’ Concert

POLSON — The Polson Fairground Amphitheatre is the site of the “Here Comes the Sun” concert. This concert celebrates the sounds and songs of the Beatles at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks will be on site at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

 

Church holds annual Craft Fair/Garage Sale

POLSON - The fourth annual vendor/craft fair and garage sale will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. A hot dog lunch will be available for $2 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information call 406-250-1061. 

 

Country Jam, dances cancelled

POLSON — Our Classic Country Jammin’ scheduled for April 5, at the Elks Ballroom in Polson is cancelled until further notice. Wednesday night dances at the Elks’ ballroom in Polson are also cancelled until further notice. We pray that everyone is staying home and being safe. We do have to go out for essentials and that is okay. Lake City Bakery, McDonalds and Burgerville are open in Polson for take outs. We are all in this together and need to help each other wherever we can, physically or financially. Please encourage one another and we will all get through this. Don’t be prideful and not ask for help, if you really need it. This hardship we are going through may take a little time but if we all work together and for each other, it will pass. We hope to see you all again very soon.

Donation day planned at library

POLSON —Friends of the Library will hold their donation day on Nov. 2 for the month of November. You can donate up to two boxes of books per donation. Watch Mission Mountain Rodeo

POLSON — The 2025 Mission Mountain Rodeo at the Polson Fairgrounds Arena will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 27, and 28. This is a Northern Rodeo Association-sanctioned event. On Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. – youth events including mutton bustin’, mini bull riding & pony mini buckers get underway. At 7 p.m. Northern Rodeo Association events begin and include bareback, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, team roping, tie-down roping, ladies and youth barrel racing, ladies and youth breakaway roping and bull riding. Tickets are available at the gate - $15/adult, $5/children under 12. No pre-sale tickets. There will be food, beverages and beer garden concessions available. ARLEE — The 2025 Arlee Celebration Powwow begins on July 1 and continues through July 6. The host drum is Black Bear of First Nation in Quebec, Canada. Master of Ceremony is Hal Eagle Tail from the Northern Denne Tsuut’ina Nation and Whitney Recountre from Rapid City, South Dakota. 

Arena Directors are Shawn Decker, Steffan Walks Over Ice and Loren Young Running Crane. Honorary Host is Yamncut of the Flathead Reservation. 

The event includes a drum contest, dance contests, a Fun Run, Youth 3-on-3, and Stick Games. The first day is Campers’ Day.

ARLEE — Home of the Free because of the Brave is the parade theme for the 76th annual Arlee 4th of July parade. Registration will be at the Arlee High School entryway with parade line up beginning in the parking lot. The parade begins at high noon, traveling south on Fyant Street turning west onto Bouch before turning north and returning to the high school via Morigeau Street. Parade categories are: patriotic, clubs & organizations, commercial, western outfit, Indian outfit, vehicle, novelty and humorous. Trophies will be awarded at the Arlee Jocko Valley Museum following the parade. Step back in time and visit the museum on July 4th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and by appointment during the summer. Charlo invites all to 4th of July Parade

CHARLO — The theme for the 2025 Charlo 5th of July Parade is “United We Stand.” The Marine Honor Guard led “United We Stand”-themed parade starts at 12 noon, and is followed by an afternoon of fun and games for all ages. Sandy and Curt Coulter are the honored grand marshals. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, and have been long-time business and community members. The parade will showcase antique vehicles, fire department equipment, horses, and more. The American Legion will announce the winners of their raffle. The delectable fry bread made by Nancy Vaughan and her family will be available, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and other food items sold by local students and 4-Hers. A block party will run from 3 to 7 p.m. on the Charlo school grounds and offers vendor booths, a dunk tank, Bounce House, and a hot-dog eating contest, plus a DJ and a place to dance. Many of these activities are fundraising events for the local fire department and for Charlo athletic teams. Snow cones, cotton candy, a lemonade stand, and walking tacos from the 44 Bar and the Outwest Grill will fuel your fun-filled afternoon. Come enjoy this small-town annual event and support the local merchants who support the whole community. Jocko Museum opens

ARLEE — The Arlee Jocko Valley Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. on July 4. The museum features a new display, “Blast from the Past,” that takes you down memory lane for Arlee and the Jocko Valley. There are photographs of people that built the community, local business and important historical moments. The museum is located at the corner of Bouch and Fyant (by the grade school). The museum houses a continuous photo and artifact display of Veteran Memorials, homesteaders, and Native Americans. Call 406-726-3167 for more information and a viewing appointment. Main Street closes for 4th of July Parade in Polson

POLSON —Come watch the annual Fourth of July Independence Day Parade on Main Street entitled, “Red, White and BBQ,” beginning at noon on Friday, July 4. The 4th of July parade brings the magic of the holiday to the quaint and charming Polson downtown district. The streets line with families and children eager to collect candy and watch all the fun and creative parade floats.
