Contemplating source of morality

Editor, I have learned one thing from Gene Johnson. One need not investigate or research for the facts of history. If you do not like what the facts say, just dismiss them and make up your own version and pass it off as fact. There is no sense discussing the past with someone with so little regard for evidence. Johnson implies that only atheists are scientific and that atheists can be ethical, loving and caring. While I will admit that many atheists are ethical and caring people, I can verify that only by using my own set of ethics to evaluate them, since atheism specifically denies the existence of absolute morals. Many atheists argue that the universe and all of life is the result of r...

Respect for outdoors, elders needed

Editor, On May 10, I called Tribal Police and Lake County because there’s been a four-wheeler and a dirt bike (not street legal) that only show up after the school bus goes by my place at 4 p.m. From 4:30 to 5 p.m. they show up and my 75-year-old friend that lives around the corner from me told me t...

Thoughts during Memorial Day shared

Editor, This letter contains a poem. It is not in poetic form but can be read as such. It was composed on Memorial Day as I was viewing and hearing all the emotions that are connected with me as an 88-year-old former Army soldier. My earlier years, during WWII, made a very significant impression upon m...

Positive influence stronger than political division

Editor, A couple of weeks ago, I composed a letter on my thoughts about how the majority of “We the People” are not swayed nor held hostage to so many of the political rants, raves and divisive decisions being made in America today. I believe that regardless of all the grand talk and a...
