Winged wonder: A male Calliope hummingbird is captured on camera in mid flight. Magenta rays on a male's throat are a distinctive feature of a Calliope. According to the National Audubon Society, this is the smallest bird in North America, measuring about three inches long and weighing about one-tenth of an ounce.
