POLSON — The Port Polson Players kick off their 51st season with a regional premiere and out-of-this-world production, of “Closer.” A new play by Teresa Hu, part II of the Route 66 Trilogy is loosely based on the 1951 hit movie, “The Day The Earth Stood Still,” and features 20 Mission Valley performers.
Set in the Crash Site Nightclub on the outskirts of Tucumcari, New Mexico, upcoming folk singer Reena McKenna encounters a mysterious stranger after hours, following a worldwide UFO scare. She must first determine if the stranger is an alien from another world, which is really closer than we think. Ultimately, Reena – and the audience – must decide if his message will indeed determine the fate of the entire planet. With comedy, drama, mystery, magic, and wholesome wisdom, critics call the show “boldly provocative.”
“We are beyond excited to kick off the Players 51st season with this show and have the perfect cast for it,” says Players’ Director Neal Lewing.
“Closer” plays two weekends at Polson’s heated Log Theatre on the Lake: Nov. 14-16 and 21-23. Curtain times are at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. For reservations, call 406-883-9212, or go to: portpolsonplayers.com. “Closer” is produced by the Port Polson Players, in association with the Mission Valley Friends of the Arts.
