BIG ARM — On Independence Day, Morrie Morin, left and Rick Marquart of the Marine Corps League Hellroaring Detachment Color Guard fold the American flag in a triangle, explaining the meaning of each fold before raising it skyward. In 1952 the historic school was closed and the daily ritual of raising the American flag ceased. In 2008, the Big Arm Association took on the task of restoring the historic school to be used as Big Arm’s Community Center. Now with the building mostly restored and being used for many community events, it was time to also restore the tradition of flying the flag. A flagpole was erected thanks to donations from the local community.
