MISSION – Nine runners make up the girls and boys cross-country team for the Mission Bulldogs, according to Head Coach Chris Eichert. The athletes have been putting in the early-season work in hopes for personal bests come competition time.

“Our practices are different each day,” Eichert said. “We work on endurance, with long runs; changing pace with ladders and of course hills. I really try and vary the practices.”

With six girls on the roster this year, the Lady Bulldogs can compete as a team, instead of just individually. The roster includes Karolyn Buck, Amy Dillard, Keisha Dillard, Yvonne Baty, Shaniya Decker and Elsa Kylen.

On the boys’ side there are only three athletes out for this season. Troy Matt, Wacey McClure and Korbyn Hernandez make up the Bulldog squad.

“Even though we don’t have much experience, the athletes are constantly improving and showing a ton of effort at every practice,” Eichert said. “I think as the year goes on and they gain experience, we will be able compete with other schools.”

Mission competed on Friday, Sept. 2 in the Canal Bank Run in Ronan. The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs will continue their season on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Flathead High School Invitational.
