Sheehy’s federal contracts are conflict of interest

Editor, Senator Jon Tester has been a strong advocate for veterans, and for agricultural interests, both of which are important in Montana. There are few US Senators with understanding of rural agriculture, and Montana needs to maintain that voice. Tim Sheehy is a businessman, and has made a successful business of Bridger Aerospace. Although there has been talk about financial troubles, that may or may not be important to voters. What is an important issue to consider is that his company has a very large amount of income from federal contracts. Per Washington Post, “Bridger also has multiyear contracts with federal agencies totaling $226 million.” Should anyone whose pr...

Citizens need to know candidate views

Editor, There’s a billboard on Highway 93 in Lake County, plus many smaller posted signs, duplicates of the billboard, showing a photo of a guy running for the state legislature, (HD-91.) He’s grinning in a photo on the billboard, saying something like, “I’m running because I care....

Trade ego-based thought system for spiritual one

Editor, Our present lives as humans on earth are filled with increas- ing chaos, confusion about life, and our advanced methods of killing each other. This threatens our continuing human exis- tence on planet earth. There is a powerful answer to all this. It involves the power of the mind. We humans ha...

Vote hard-working teachers into government

Editor, “The teaching profession contributes more to our society than any other single profession.” (John Wooden) Teachers work hard. If asked to do extra jobs, they may grumble, but they do them. They care about all students, listening to their concerns and advancing solutions. Teachers work ...

All Democrats rubberstamp, Republicans don’t

Editor, Obviously the Democrat calling Representative Reksten “Rubberstamp Reksten” has never reviewed the house votes. As a former member of the Montana House and Senate, I can attest that all Democrats rubberstamp. In fact, I was so shocked when first elected that I would attend Democrat cau...

Lots of hate speech at DNC convention

Editor, As I read Bob McClellan’s letter to the editor, the adage “the pot calling the kettle black” came to mind. He came up with the term “Trumpism” to label anyone supporting President Trump. He said Trumpism is characterized by fear, anger, and self-centeredness. I wou...

Fear, anger, self-centeredness define ‘Trumpism’

Editor, This is our present three (3) party political system:  Democratic, Republican, and what I term “Trumpism.” Trumpism was formed by Donald Trump’s presidency. It is ruled by fear, anger, and self-centeredness. Let’s call it FAS. These human tendencies are personal cho...

Vote Azzopardi for HD 13

Editor, Shirley Azzopardi is running for Montana House District 13. Shirley graduated from the University of Montana and was a special education teacher for 30 years with 28 of those in St. Ignatius. Currently, she is the Mental Health Coordinator for Early Childhood Services with the Confederate Salish K...

Azzopardi is best choice for HD13

Editor, It is difficult to write a letter in support of Shirley Azzopardi for House District 13 without comparing her to her opponent, the incumbent Linda Reksten. While Shirley advocates for the state legislature to adjust tax rates to lower our property taxes, the Republican Supermajority and Linda Reks...

Vote Busse for governor

Editor, Thunder boomed as a deluge of rain fell outside, setting the stage for a powerful presentation by Ryan Busse at a gathering of Montanans. Running for governor, he painted a positive picture of the future with articulate skill, humor and warmth. If elected, this future includes Ryan’s hono...
