DIXON – As I write this, it is Friday 13 and my new deck thermometer shows 77 degrees in the sun. What an inspiring pre-spring we’re having—especially compared to the weather in the south and east. My sister from Connecticut is arriving at midnight tonight. Won’t she be relieved to get out of the storms.

Recent signs of spring include the Coles’ sheep are shorn (they have triplet goats); a first-robin appeared on my lawn; crocuses are in full bloom; and red-winged black birds are using their spring voices. There’s a definite change in their voices; I’ve tried to describe it to someone who’s hard of hearing, but can’t get the sound just right.

We would love to see you at our center for lunch on Thursdays at noon and dinner at 6 p.m. on Mondays. This is our Daylight Savings Time schedule. The center is available for rent for various celebrations/meetings. Graduation is nearing, and birthdays, showers, reunions can all be held right here in Dixon. Call (406) 246-3313, for information. Our menu for the month will be:

•  Thursday, March 19: corned beef and cabbage

•  Monday, March 23: green chili, corn bread

•  Thursday, March 26: Indian tacos (fry bread)

•  Monday, March 30: breaded chicken, chickpea salad

Any age person is welcome at meals, so bring your company or invite a neighbor for a spring outing.
