Pachyderms to host Judge Christopher
POLSON — The Lake County Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, Jan. 13, at noon in the Rural Polson Fire Department building on Regatta Road, Polson.
District Judge Kim Christopher will be the featured speaker. She will be explaining the need for a separate criminal justice building that would house a jail and courtrooms totally separate from the current courthouse. In addition to showing its age, the format of the current courthouse requires highly emotional trials to take place in the same facility in which the public comes to get information and transact civil law needs such as vehicle registration and paying taxes.
She is expected to share courtroom examples of potentially explosive situations where feuding family members needed to be separated by deputy sheriffs. She is currently holding family law trials in the county commissioner’s office, which leads to a lack of decorum and respect for the judicial system, and provides potential for highly emotional people to act out on their feelings.
Anyone wishing to be informed on this issue is cordially invited to attend the meeting.
