ST. IGNATIUS — The St. Ignatius Volunteer Fire Department got back to having an annual picnic this year with their Saturday fundraiser after last year was canceled due to the pandemic.
“We had a nice rebound after one year of nothing,” said department chief Reece Bailey.
Bailey said it seemed like a lot of people were ready to come back and support the department after not having the event last year. People gathered at the Good Old Days park to enjoy a picnic lunch cooked and served by department volunteers.
Funds were also raised during live and silent auctions. Though total amounts raised weren’t known by press time, bids went up as fast as the auctioneer could talk for items that included home décor, toys, hay and more.
Revenues will be split between the St. Ignatius town fire department and the rural department for needed items like personal protective equipment. Bailey said funds are also saved to purchase emergency vehicles as the old ones are ready to retire.
