RONAN — K. William Harvey Elementary School welcomes three new teachers this school year.
Dusti Smith is the physical education instructor who recently moved to the area from Fairfield, where she was a special education paraeducator and coach.
Smith graduated elementary and high school in Power and went on to attend the University of Montana.
She and her husband own a yellow lab. In her free time Smith enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking, playing and coaching sports.
“I love that in P.E. I get to build a relationship with every student in first through fourth grade,” Smith said.
Alicia Hakes is a Ronan native who teaches second grade. This is Hakes’ first year teaching.
Hakes is married and has four dogs. She loves canning, sewing, and being outside.
Jessica Charette is a Ronan native and first year kindergarten teacher.
Charette graduated from Salish Kootenai College in June 2014. She is mother to three boys and enjoys spending time with her family, playing sports, and enjoying the great outdoors.
“I love having the opportunity to make a difference in children’s lives,” Charette said. “It’s amazing to observe those ‘aha’ moments and know that all the hard work that accompanies teaching is paying off.”
