THOMPSON FALLS — The Arlee tracksters saw their hard work at practice pay dividends at the Thompson Falls Invitational.

The Scarlets placed 10 times scoring 30 points – their most in the short season – to finish in seventh place in the 12-team field Thursday. The Warriors placed five times to rack up 13 points and finished ninth.

Scarlet sophomore Becca Nelson placed in three individual events and in her first meet of the season, Scarlet senior Chelsea Allaire placed in two individual events.

Nelson, who has placed in all three meets this season, finished in second in the discus with a throw of 93 feet, 9 inches and third in the javelin with a throw of 99 feet, 9 inches. While both throws were a little shorter than last week, Arlee coach Russell Baker said that Nelson is consistently throwing with the top girls in the district. He said if she can add some more speed in her approach in the javelin she’ll get back to throwing 110 feet like she did at the end of her freshman year. Nelson, who cleared 4 feet, 6 inches to finish in fifth place in the high jump, finished right in front of Allaire in the javelin. Allaire finished in fifth with a throw of 97 feet, 7 inches.

“I don’t even know if (Allaire) practiced,” Baker said of Allaire in the javelin.

Allaire has practiced the hurdles and Thursday she finished in fifth in the hurdles with a time of 19.55 seconds. Baker said the time will come down with more conditioning and practice.

“(Allaire) still needs to get in shape,” Baker said. “It will come down,” he added.

Both Nelson and Allaire ran legs on Arlee’s sixth-place 400-meter relay team. Allaire, Nelson, Cassandra Kline and freshman Skyla Perry surprised Baker with their time in the race. He said Perry ran fastest enough on the anchor that he’s going to start running her in the 100-meter dash in upcoming meets.

Jenna Pablo finished in fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar set at 4 feet, 6 inches. It was the first time this season that Pablo has placed at a meet. Baker said that this should boost her confidence and give her some motivation.

Rachelle Meidinger finished in fifth in the discus (85 feet, 9 inches) and sixth in the shot put (27 feet, 7.75 inches). Kline finished in sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 30 feet, 3 inches.

Zack Carver, Zach Tameler and Clayton Trimble all placed in individual races and ran a leg on Arlee’s fourth-place 4x100-relay team.

The dirt track didn’t slow Carver down and he ran his fastest 100-meter dash of the season, finishing in third with a time 11.72 seconds.

Clayton Trimble finished in sixth in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.15 seconds. It was the first time Trimble had run the race this season.

“He was hoping to get under 25 (seconds), but he came close,” Baker said.

Tameler finished in sixth in the 400 with a time of 58.92 seconds.

“He’s slowly getting faster,” Baker said. “He’s starting to take some time off.”

Dylan Moran joined Carver, Tameler and Trimble on the 400 relay. The four finished in fourth with a time 48.74. Cole Rice took Carver’s place on the 1,600 relay and helped the team finish in fifth with a time of 4:02.26.

A lot of the Warriors that didn’t place continue to improve and are on the cusp of placing in future meet. Bryce Norling’s 39-foot, 9-inch throw was three feet farther than the week before and Webb O’Neill’s vault of 10 feet, 6 inches just kept him out of the top six.

The Arlee track team will travel to Hot Springs Thursday for the Dave Tripp Memorial and Missoula Saturday for the Seeley-Swan Invitational.
