Polson tennis boys win 1 of 3, girls split pair

CUT BANK - The Lady Pirates found themselves in unfamiliar territory Saturday: the losing end of a tennis match.

Polson picked up only two wins in Cut Bank Saturday as the Lady Pirates fell 4-2.

Whitney Zimmerman picked up the only singles win for the Lady Pirates as she downed Taylor Harvie, 8-3, while the doubles team of Kenzie Clay and Jordan Quinn picked up Polson's other win by downing Emily Anderson and Mariah McCormick, 8-2.

The Lady Pirates were coming off a conference win at Columbia Falls, where Polson downed the Wildkats 5-2 Tuesday.

Polson's top three singles players all picked up wins against the Wildkats as Kendyall Rochin defeated Gabrielle Stenger 6-2, 6-0 while Zimmerman had to come back from a set down to defeat Natalie Law, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. Karly Rochin also picked up a win as she defeated Kira Kamrud, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action, Polson's McKenna Emmerick and Gabi Kellers defeated Karmen Borchers and Audra Engebretsen, 6-3, 6-0 while Tegan Bauer and Mollybeth Hendrix took down Tiffany Borland and Casey Bauer, 6-0, 6-0.

The Pirates tennis squad had a busy week, going 2-2 in its four matchups.

The Pirates opened the week with a win at Columbia Falls Tuesday as Polson defeated the Wildcats, 5-2.

It was the strength of the Pirates' doubles squads that led to the victory as Polson won three doubles matches and just two singles matchups.

The top Polson doubles duo of Justin Evertz and Will Davey won a grueling matchup with Brian Marcille and Jordan Mueller, 7-5, 7-5 while Ian Laimbeer and Dylan McCrumb defeated James Jurva and Nathan Gedlaman, 6-1, 6-0. Reed Hovenkotter and Sam Peel completed the doubles sweep for Polson as they defeated Kaleb Bauman and Isaac Morden, 6-0, 6-1.

In singles action, Brady Hislop took down Columbia Falls No. 1 player Parker Johnson, 6-4, 7-5 while Sam Kinzle defeated Andrew West, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 in a marathon match.
The Pirates had a rough time at Cut Bank as they fell to Hardin and Cut Bank but defeated Havre.

Hayden Congdon and Evertz picked up a doubles win, as did Laimbeer and McCrumb as the Pirates fell to Hardin, 5-2.

Polson picked up one more win against Cut Bank as Hislop, Davey and Evertz and Andrew Storro all picked up wins against Cut Bank, but the Pirates still fell, 4-3.

Polson picked up a 5-2 win over Havre as Hislop defeated Justin Jensen, 8-5, Congdon took down Blaine Grisak, 8-2, Jared Gallatin defeated Jacob Holden, 8-6, Condon and Evertz defeated John Joyce and Lane Bowman, 8-5 and Laimbeer and McCrumb got past Nate Lyman and Hans Hill, 8-5.
