News from the Polson Speech, Debate and Drama Team

Polson High School Speech and Drama team competed at the Kalispell Classic Speech and Debate meet on Saturday, Nov. 1. The event was hosted at Flathead High School, all speech events, and Glacier High School, all debate events.

“We have a really small team this year, but we are lucky to have a lot of good, young talent. I am very proud of the kids—it was the first or second meet for several of them, and they performed quite well, particularly considering that it was a big AA meet. They weren’t intimidated, and they had some great scores in rounds,” said Jon Petersen, Polson head speech coach.

Polson finalists were:

5th Place, Policy Debate: Annabelle Smith and Shannon McGinnis

8th Place, Serious Oral Interpretation: Jordan Broussard

Semi-Finalists also included Ghanima des Lions in Original Oratory and Kania Smith in Serious Oral Interpretation.

Sweeps results were:

Class AA Speech: 1st—Flathead, 2nd—Glacier, 3rd—Sentinel

Class ABC Speech: 1st—Hamilton, 2nd—Columbia Falls, 3rd—Stevensville

Facts and Comments:

Thirteen team from western Montana schools, including AA, A and B, competed in the meet.

Polson has seven meets remaining in the season, with their next meet on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Ronan High School.
