RONAN — It was a shorter trip and more sleep for Polson High School forensic competitors, as they only had to travel 11 miles south to Ronan for RHS’s Invitational Speech and Drama meet on Nov. 15.
Jon Petersen, Polson’s head coach, said five schools competed — Glacier High School Junior Varsity, Flathead High School Junior Varsity, Bigfork High School, PHS and host Ronan. Most other schools participated in the Hamilton meet.
“We were the only class-A school and we only brought eight competitors, so it is somewhat difficult to gauge our performance. But the kids did a great job, showing that we definitely have considerable talent,” he said.
Polson finalists were:
2nd, Policy Debate: Annabelle Smith and Shannon McGinnis
2nd, Memorized Public Address: Haley Kendley
2nd, Expository Speaking: Jordan Broussard
5th, Impromptu Speaking: Kania Smith
5th, Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature: Kania Smith
7th, Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature: Jordan Broussard
7th, Humorous Oral Interpretation of Literature: Jordan Croft
8th, Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature: Geneva des Lions
PHS has six meets remaining in the season and will compete again on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Whitefish High School. This will be a very large meet by Class A school standards with 14 schools signed up to compete, according to Petersen.
